We spend a lifetime searching
Searching for the things that will make us happy
Pouring ourselves into dreams that may never be
Becoming what we think other people would like
Just to say that we are worthy
Of that thing called love

Looking to God for answers
And finding only more confusion
Hoping that just a prayer will
make our lives worthwhile
Soon we realize that not
all things come easily
And often we give up on those ideals
Before looking in the right direction

Sadly we never look
Toward the one place that can fill
The emptiness that plagues us deep inside
After dreams have failed and love is lost
We will realize that the only place
We ever needed to look was within
