Welcome to The Scotland Corner!

Welcome! I'm glad you came to visit my Scotland Corner! While you're here you can read and see pictures of our trip to Scotland in 1996. Click on the various links below to view some great scenery pictures of castles and landscape or click on the 'Next' button on each picture page to take a tour. Only 2 or 3 pictures on each page for faster downloading. If you're interested in finding some good Scottish sites, I've put some of my favourite ones on a separate page as well.

        Now on to the trip......

For as long as I can remember, I've always loved Scotland! My great-great grandfather and my husband's parents were born and raised there. I was fortunate enough to visit Scotland during April of 1996. My husband Frank, our 2 girls, my in-laws and my Mom all went for 22 days! One memorable moment happened as we were standing in the Glasgow Airport parking lot waiting for our rental car. My oldest daughter, Kylie (4 at the time), stood looking all about and said, "I like this new world!". She couldn't have been more right :)

We stayed with relatives while we were there. We spent our first week visiting with everyone. Our first Saturday there, Kylie was a flower girl in Frank's cousin's wedding. Everything was just lovely!

During the second week there, we went on a 'road trip' travelling around Scotland. We left the girls with my in-laws and my Mom came along too. From Monday to Friday we travelled southwest from Hamilton to see the Robbie Burns' Cottage first. We also saw the Culzean Castle as well.

Our second day was spent travelling north along the west coast. We stopped at Dumbarton Castle to see the ruins. As we continued north, we ventured further into the Highlands. We spent the night in the port town of Oban. Beautiful scenery!

On our third day, we stopped to take pictures of Ben Nevis, the highest peak in all of Great Britian. It was too cloudy for a cable car ride. We stopped to see Urquhart Castle ruins on the Loch Ness. Excellent view! We never got to see the Loch Ness Monster either! We stopped at the Loch Ness Monster Exhibition where we spent way too much money on souvenirs :) That night we stayed at a small Bed and Breakfast Hotel.

We woke up on the fourth day to sunny skies and no rain! It was very cold and windy though. Now we are heading down the east coast of Scotland. Blue skies allowed for some excellent pictures of scenery. You could see for miles! We tried to visit Drum Castle but it wasn't open to the public yet. We did get to tour through Crathes Castle and it was excellent! We saw Dunottar Castle from a distance. It was too cold to walk down to the castle from the road. By late afternoon we arrived in St. Andrews just in time to see the palace ruins. We had to keep travelling for another 2 hours looking for a place to stay the night!

The last day of our road trip took us into the city of Dunfermline where we walked around Pittencrieff Park before the palace ruins and the Abbey opened up for visitors. The park was so beautiful! There were peacocks roaming everywhere. We stayed quite awhile in Dunfermline. We arrived home in the early afternoon to 2 very happy little girls! :)

We spent the next week doing some day trips here and there. One trip to the Edinburgh Zoo. Another to Moffat, a small town that has a very large wool mill and also the "Narrowest Hotel in the World" - Guiness World Book Record. We ended our week saying goodbye to all the relatives. We had a great time!

It was so hard to choose which pictures to use........
I think I got a little carried away *grin*

We visited Scotland again during June-July of 2005.
